Beginning in December of 2013, the United States regulatory
agencies like OSHA, EPA, DOT etc… will be using the GHS labeling system the new
SDS Safety Data Sheet and all of it’s recommended policies, for example: OSHA’s
HAZCOM (Hazardous Communications) standard will show the updated changes
outlined in GHS.
The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and
Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is intended to show the way to all personnel who must
know the chemical hazards of the workplace with the transition to a worldwide
system for labeling and classifying chemicals. The GHS was adopted by OSHA in
March 2012 and has been dubbed “HCS 2012.” Training requirements that are
mandated under 29 CFR 1910.1200.
The rule GHS R3, the goal of the GHS is to identify
dangers found in substances and mixtures and to show hazard information about
these.
